Shrewsbury sign Stoke pair on loan

By Nathan Jacobs

Shrewsbury have bolstered their ranks, signing George Waring Mohamed El-Ouriachi Choulay on loan from Stoke.

Striker Waring scored six times in 19 League One appearances on loan at Barnsley two seasons ago. He also featured 14 times for Oxford as they won promotion to League One last season and will be hoping to help the Shrews improve their shyness in front of goal.

Micky Mellon was delighted to add a physical presence with the arrival of the 6 ft 5 former Everton youth product.

“He will give us a real presence up there,” he said. “He’s very mobile and a lad that’s determined to come here and do very well.

“He was highly rated at Stoke, so we’re really pleased to get him here.”

In addition to Waring, the club have signed former Barcelona winger Mohamed El-Ouriachi Choulay. Nicknamed “Moha”, Choulay joined Stoke after rejecting a new deal at the Blaugranes.

The 20-year-old will bring more pace to the New Meadow, a feature Mellon acknowledged on the club’s official website.

He said: “He’s a real talent, he’s an old fashioned winger who likes to dribble and he’s very technical, as you would expect.

“It’s his first loan out of Stoke, but he’s certainly a lad with some incredible breathtaking talent.

“We wanted something that would be exciting. A real talent that fans would want to see, that will run and take people on and real pace, so Moha fitted the bill for us.”

Mellon will hope they hit the ground running to help improve the Shrews’ fortunes following a solitary point from their opening two matches, although they did impressively knock Championship side Huddersfield Town out of the EFL Cup.
