Bentley dedicates award to his players

Morecambe manager Jim Bentley has been handed August’s League Two Manager of the Month award, and has quickly dedicated it to his players.

The Shrimps won four of their five games in August, and soared to the top of the table as they came quickest out of the starting blocks.

“I am delighted to collect the award. It is a great achievement for the club, and the players and the backroom staff deserve all the plaudits.

However, despite what has been a mightily impressive start, the campaign did kick-off with a disappointing defeat a newly promoted Grimsby.

It was result akin to how they finished last season, where after a similarly fast start, Bentley’s men ended up clinging on to their League Two status for dear life.

But the resilience and determination shown by his players to bounce back from that defeat has given Bentley hope they may well continue their impressive start for a while longer.

Bentley said: “After a poor start to the season at Grimsby the lads have been brilliant and given their all and to get four wins from the first five games was a magnificent effort.

“This award is really for them.”
