Villa seal the De Laet deal

Aston Villa have completed the signing of 27-year-old defender Ritchie De Laet on a three-year deal.

The Belgian, who is most comfortable at right-back but can also operate as a central defender, joins the Villans from Leicester, where he spent four years.

In that time, he made 115 appearances for the club, and played 26 times for The Foxes as they romped to the Championship title in 2014.

As well as making 12 appearances for Leicester last season, he also gained more Championship experience, winning promotion with Middlesbrough, which earned him both a Premier League winner’s medal and a Championship promotion medal.

Roberto di Matteo said: “I’m pleased to have brought Ritchie to the club.

“He is another player who not only has Championship experience but has also played a part in helping a team win promotion back to the Premier League.”

The arrival of De Laet, for a fee of around £2milion, is di Matteo’s seventh signing of the summer, and he will be available for selection ahead of the weekend’s game at Bristol City.
