Darrell Clarke opts to stay with Bristol Rovers following Leeds interest

Bristol Rovers manager Darrell Clarke has put pen to paper on a new three-year deal with the club, which has all but ended any possibility of a move to Elland Road.

Leeds made a formal approach for the 38-year-old earlier in the week before Rovers moved to offer Clarke an improved contract.

Clarke has guided The Pirates to back to back promotions over the past two seasons and is seen as one of the best young managers in the Football League.

The former Mansfield player joined Rovers in 2014 after guiding Salisbury City to four promotions in five years.

A statement on Bristol Rovers’ official club website read, Darrell believes that the ambitions of Bristol Rovers match his own and is looking forward to the challenge of preparing the club for life back in Sky Bet League One for the 2016/17 campaign.”

Leeds have reportedly approached Karl Robinson and Darrell Clarke in recent weeks as they look to prepare for the new Championship season.

The future of current Head Coach Steve Evans is still unclear.
