Notts County appoint John Sheridan after he leaves Oldham

After plenty of speculation League Two side Notts County have finally announced that John Sheridan will be their new manager.

Sheridan is believed to have signed a three-year deal at Meadow Lane and will replace Mark Cooper who left the club at the start of the month.

The new County boss had only been with Oldham for five months after joining the Latics for a second spell in January but did well to steer the club clear of the League One drop zone.

Several Oldham fans have reacted with surprise at Sheridan’s decision to drop down a division to take charge of County.

Sheridan told the Notts County official club website, “I’m delighted to be joining Notts County and relishing the opportunity to get the club challenging for promotion to League One.

“The decision to leave Oldham was not an easy one and I will always retain my affection for the club and its fans.

“Notts County is a big club – far bigger than its current league position suggests and having taken Chesterfield to the League Two title, I know what is required to succeed and get the club back to a higher level.”
This will be the third club that Sheridan has taken charge of within the last 12 months after the 51-year-old had a brief spell as manager of Newport County midway through the season.
