Kevin Long joins Barnsley on loan

Struggling League One side Barnsley have brought in defender Kevin Long on a one month loan deal from Burnley.

The 25 year old has not played first team football since rupturing his cruciate ligament when making his Premier League debut against Newcastle in January.

Long came through the academy at Irish side Cork City before signing for Burnley in 2009. He has previously spent time on loan at Accrington Stanley, Rochdale and Portsmouth.

Long expressed his delight at joining Barnsley, telling the club’s official website, “I’m itching to play. I jumped at the opportunity to come out and play. The gaffer here is a genuine guy and I know one or two of the lads here. It’s a good fit for me.

“Even if I didn’t know anyone here it’s still a big club with good training facilities, it was kind of an easy choice.”

Lee Johnson’s Barnsley have had a difficult start to the season and are currently sitting in 23rd place in the table. They face a trip to David Dunn’s Oldham on Saturday.
