Plymouth bring in Walton on loan

Christian Walton has joined League Two table toppers Plymouth Argyle on loan from Brighton.

The loan move is somewhat of a homecoming for the 20-yer old goalkeeper who came through the Plymouth academy before leaving to join Brighton in 2014.

Walton made four appearances on loan at Bury last season and has eight England Under 20 caps. He has also made three appearances for Brighton, including a clean sheet in a home win against Wigan.

Plymouth manager Derick Adams has been on the lookout for a new goalkeeper after first choice ‘keeper Luke McCormick suffered a groin injury in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy match against Millwall on 10 November.

Plymouth gave a start to back up goalkeeper James Bittner in Saturday’s 2-1 win at struggling York City. This helped to end Bittner’s remarkable run of not starting a Football League match for 4,991 days. However, with Walton’s arrival Bittner may have a tough job on his hands to secure another start against Exeter on Saturday.

Walton is expected to initially stay on loan at Home Park until January.
