The Football League Paper says…: Ex-pros can play bigger role in game

WHETHER you love him or loathe him, it’s difficult to ignore Fleetwood Town manager Joey Barton.
And when he talks about football, he does talk from a position of authority following a lengthy playing career in the professional ranks. Now he’s taking his first steps in management with the Cod Army and probably beginning to realise just how tough a job it is.
A few days ago, he made an interesting point, suggesting that former players should review red card incidents, the inference being that they are more likely to be able to spot what is genuine foul play.
