League Two side Barnet have completed the signing of former Peterborough striker Shaquile Coulthirst.

The 22-year-old joined Posh in January 2016, but ended last season on loan at Mansfield, scoring five goals in 20 games for the Stags as their late play-off push ultimately failed, and left the ABAX stadium by mutual consent in May.

In his short spell under the guidance of Grant McCann, Coulthirst, a product of Tottenham’s academy, made 35 appearances for Peterborough, scoring four times, and now becomes Barnet’s third signing of the summer.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Bees head coach Rossi Eames said: “Firstly, he fills the number 11 shirt which everyone has waited for.

“He fits the culture and philosophy we want to play with, on and off the ball.

“He’s flexible with regards to the fact he can play in both a front three and in a front two, he also offers pace, aggression and can score goals.”

The news of Coulthirst joining is a further boost for Barnet and the club’s fans, after last night’s 3-1 win over Braintree continued the team’s impressive pre-season form.

With a young squad, the Bees swept aside their non-league opponents to make it five wins from five in their pre-season campaign, and Eames was delighted with the performance his men gave.

“First half, I wasn’t too pleased with our performance.” said the 32-year-old boss. “But in the second half, I thought we were excellent.”
