Joe Davis becomes Port Vale’s fourth summer signing

The 23-year-old was still under contract with Fleetwood heading into the upcoming season, but negotiated his release to re-join his boyhood club.

League Two side Port Vale have re-signed former defender Joe Davis from Fleetwood on a two-year deal.

The 23-year-old was still under contract with the Cod Army heading into the upcoming season, but negotiated his release to re-join his boyhood club.

Davis came through the ranks at Vale and went on to make 31 appearances in all competitions, including 10 under the guidance of Micky Adams during the 2012/13 promotion campaign.

His form for the Valiants tempted Leicester to sign him in 2014, but he failed to break through from the development squad to the first-team at the King Power stadium, and joined Fleetwood on loan before making the move permanent in January 2016.

Under Uwe Rosler, Davis again found it difficult to establish himself in the first-team, and last season, had to spend much of Town’s impressive campaign on the bench as he made just eight appearances and only played 79 minutes from January onwards.

Davis will officially join Vale on 1st July, and is Michael Brown’s fourth signing of the summer as the boss plans for life in League Two.

Tom Pope arrived back at Vale in May from Bury, while winger Cristian Montano and Rob Lainton joined on Tuesday, and all three have signed two-year deals like Davis.
