Newport boss Graham Westley has blasted his Newport players after their defeat to Stevenage last night, saying he will ‘not tolerate this rubbish anymore.’

The Welsh side remain rooted to the bottom of League Two after last night’s 2-0 home defeat, at the hands of Westley’s former club.

It was their third consecutive loss, after four wins in a row had previously hauled County out of the relegation zone, and Westley was pulling no punches after the match.

“I’m not prepared to tolerate that sort of rubbish anymore,” he said.

“We weren’t game intelligent enough, we showed naivety and didn’t do enough of those basic things. If you don’t do the basics in football you pay the price.”

“We had enough chances to get something from the game but we weren’t clinical enough.

“There’s some harsh words being said because I won’t tolerate that.”

Nevertheless, despite his criticism of his players, Westley was also keen to not be too negative, and says Saturday’s game, at home to Morecambe, is a must win game.

The Exiles manager said: “It’s one of those games that defines who we are and defines what we are all about.

“If we want the points on Saturday we can earn them so it’s up to us to do that.”
