Newport boss Westley wants to make Rodney Parade a fortress

Newport County boss Graham Westley wants to make their home ground, Rodney Parade, a place teams fear.

The Welsh club, who appointed Westley as Warren Feeney’s replacement on 7 October, find themselves without a home win all season and bottom of League Two, with leaders Plymouth visiting tomorrow.

However Westley has vowed to change the club’s form and said: “Our home needs to be a place that people fear coming to and it will be.

“It’s up to us to step up to the plate.”

Plymouth are currently flying high at the top of the division, without a defeat in their last ten games and three points clear of second place Doncaster.

However, Westley, who was in charge of League One Peterborough before being appointed as the Exiles new boss, is used to big games against big teams and said: “With respect to any team in League Two, they’re a League Two team. Last year I faced some big clubs in League One and there were some really tough challenges.

“We’re in League Two facing League Two opponents and of course we must not underestimate them – but we must not overestimate them.

“We’ve got a lot of experience and good quality players here and I’m sure we’re capable of playing like a top of the league team.

“The home record over the last couple of years hasn’t been good and we need to start putting that straight.”
