Cotterill rejects Newport County offer

Steve Cotterill has rejected the chance to become Newport County’s new manager.

Cotterill, who has managed Portsmouth, Nottingham Forest and most recently Bristol City, who sacked him in January, was seen as an ideal replacement by the Exiles, who sacked Warren Feeney on Wednesday.

However, as well as former Swansea and Wolves manager Kenny Jackett, Cotterill has ruled himself out of the running.

Despite these setbacks, the Welsh club is thought to be compiling a list of potential targets that includes ex-Eastleigh boss Chris Todd, former Forest Green manager Adrian Pennock and former Swansea assistant coach Colin Pascoe.

Former Crawley manager Mark Yates is also said to be in the running, while the club are also understood to have contacted former England Under-21 boss Peter Taylor about the role.

The Exiles find themselves bottom of League Two after just one win all season, away at Leyton Orient, and are three points adrift of safety.
