Payne bolsters Bowyer’s Blackpool

Blackpool have completed the signing of midfielder Jack Payne from Peterborough on an initial one-year deal, with the option of a further year.

The 24-year-old joined Posh from Gillingham in 2013 for a fee believed to be £600,000, after enjoying a successful loan spell at the club.

He went on to make 90 appearances at the ABAX Stadium, and won the Football League Trophy 2014, but found his first-team chances limited and spent last season on loan at Leyton Orient.

Payne said: “I need to get myself playing again, get myself back out there and prove, not to everyone else but more to myself, that I can get back to the form that I was showing a couple of years ago.

“I want to come here and be successful – that’s the aim of the club this year. I want to come here and be out of this league with this club.

Prior to joining Peterborough, Payne came through the ranks at Gillingham, where he made over 100 appearances for the club and won the club’s Young Player of the Season award in 2009.

Tangerines boss Gary Bowyer said: “I’m delighted that we’ve been able to get it done, and a lot of the credit has to go to Jack himself for wanting to come and play for us.

“He’s got some ability on the ball for us in the middle of the park and he sees a pass.

“I know what he’s going to bring to us and we’re looking forward to it.”

Payne will now go straight into Bowyer’s squad, and is available for selection ahead of this weekend’s fixture at home to Plymouth.
