Mariners sign free agent Andrew

Football League new boys Grimsby Town have made their first signing of the summer transfer window with defender Danny Andrew joining the Mariners.

The 25-year-old joins the National League play-off winners on a one-year deal, after being told by Fleetwood Town he was free to look for a new club after their season concluded.

Andrew was happy to join Paul Hurst’s side, and told the club’s website: “I am delighted to have signed. I felt at ease straight away; I was welcomed by all the staff that I met and I can’t wait to meet the boys now.”

Going on to encourage his new team-mates thrive on the thrill of their play-off victory.

“I don’t see why it should stop now,” Andrew said, “I don’t see any reason in us not being able to go again and keep this successful winning feeling about the club into next season. I’m looking forward to being part of this successful journey and I can’t wait to get started.”

The left-back, who can alternatively play in the centre of defence, began his career with Peterborough and in recent seasons has played for Macclesfield Town and Gloucester City on loan.
