Crawley sign Turkish goalkeeper Yusuf Mersin

Crawly Town have made their sixth summer signing by brining in 21-year-old goalkeeper Yusuf Mersin from Turkish top-flight side Kasimpasa.

Mersin came through the youth set up at Liverpool and has represented his country at both under 17 and under 18 levels.

The goalkeeper has also spent time on the books at South London club Millwall in the past.

Crawley Head Coach Dermott Drummy told the club’s official website, “Yusuf has a tremendous pedigree in youth football and went from Millwall to Liverpool for a very substantial compensation fee.

“Things didn’t work out for him in Turkey as he’d have hoped but he got some valuable experience. He is a London boy and is delighted to be back in England. I think he’s probably got a point to prove.

“He’s in superb shape physically and he’s desperate to get started. We are going to have three goalkeepers, including Yusuf and Glenn Morris, at the club next season and competition for the shirt is going to be very intense, which is want not just in that position but all over the squad.”

The Reds finished three places above the League Two drop zone in 20th place last season. During the campaign the club were taken over by Turkish businessman Ziya Eren.
