Crawley Town appoint Dermot Drummy as new manager

Crawley Town have moved swiftly to replace Mark Yates by appointing former Chelsea Under 21 boss Dermot Drummy as their new manager.

Drummy has put pen to paper on a two year contract with the possibility of a one year extension.

The new boss told Crawley’s official club website, “I’m delighted to be at Crawley and I am really looking forward to taking the club forward.

“Hopefully I can produce a team that plays attractive football that excites our fans and brings the whole club together – players, supporters and the people who work for the club.

“I can’t wait to get started. I’m looking forward to meeting the players and preparing for Saturday’s game.”

Drummy has worked with both the Arsenal and Chelsea academy and became Chelsea’s academy coach in 2009. After guiding The Blues to the FA Youth Cup in 2010, Drummy was promoted to Under 21 manager.

During a two year spell in charge of the Chelsea Under 21 side Drummy picked up more silverware by winning the Under 21 Premier League in 2014.

Speaking about the appointment, Crawley owner Zaya Erin said, “Dermot will bring top level experience and vital recruitment knowledge to Crawley Town.

“We wish him all the best for a long and successful tenure at the club.

“We thank our supporters for all your patience during these past few days and look forward to an exciting new chapter in the history of Crawley Town FC.”

This is the second time that Drummy has been first team manager at a club having previously been player-manager at non-league side Ware FC.

He was reportedly offered the managerial job at Brazilian top-flight club Bangu last year but is believed to have turned it down.

Drummy’s first game in charge of Crawley will be against already relegated Dagenham and Redbridge on Saturday.
