Darren Way signs new three-year Yeovil contract

Darren Way has put pen to paper on a new three-year contract at Yeovil Town.

The 36-year-old took over from Paul Sturrock at the start of December and has overseen a brilliant turn of form, which has seen the Glovers move 14 points clear of the League Two drop zone.

Way told Yeovil’s official club website, “I feel very proud and honoured to have signed a new contract to be manager of Yeovil Town.

  “Since I was a young lad it has always been my dream to become a professional footballer and follow that up by becoming a football manager.

“It was a massive honour for me to lead this great football club out as captain when we played our first game in the Football League against Rochdale after 108 years in non-league football and now I am leading the club as manager.

“The history this fantastic club has is remarkable and it has been my biggest job not to be scared and keep this club alive.

“When I first took over, I knew the environment I was going to be working in so I had a better understanding of what needed to be done. I had to get our players to become winners overnight and listen to simple instructions.

“I have been honest with them since I took over and at times I have been forceful with them. I wanted the players to play with their hearts and heads and play with good quality that will entertain our supporters.”

Way made over 200 appearances for Yeovil as a player and was part of the coaching set up at the club since his retirement in 2010.

The Glovers face Exeter at Huish Park on Saturday and will be hoping to gain another three points as they continue their ascent up the League Two table.
