Warren Feeney appointed as Newport County manager

Newport County have acted swiftly to replace John Sheridan’s exit by appointing Warren Feeney as their new manager.

Feeney was assistant manager under Sheridan after leaving his job as manager of Belfast club Linfield in October to join the coaching staff at Newport.

The 34-year-old told BBC Radio Wales: “It was an easy choice for me. It’s a dream that it has happened.

“I want to hit the ground running and get results. This is a great area and a decent club.”

Former manager Sheridan left Newport on Wednesday to take up the managerial post at League One side Oldham.

Feeney had an illustrious playing career where he played for the likes of Bournemouth, Cardiff and Plymouth. He also picked up 46 caps for Northern Ireland.

Newport are currently lie in 20th place in League Two, three points clear of safety. They face a crucial trip to bottom of the table York tomorrow.
