Northampton Town takeover deal finally agreed

After months of uncertainty about the fate of their football club it appears as though Northampton fans can finally breathe a sigh of relief.

It was reported yesterday that David Cardoza had reached an agreement to sell the club to former Oxford United chairman Kelvin Thomas.

The deal is subject to legal paperwork being completed, which is expected before Friday’s administration hearing.

The financial situation at the club appeared to be quickly deteriorating but Cobblers fans will be hoping that Thomas will be able to steady the ship.

In a statement on the club’s website Thomas told fans, “We are very pleased that we have an agreement.

“We still have work to do with the rest of the process but working together with the Council and the lawyers we expect to get everything done in time for Friday.

“Once again we appreciate all the support and good wishes from fans, all the hard work by the staff and players and thank David Cardoza for his kind words.”

Thomas took over at Oxford in 2008 when the club were on the brink of going into administration . However he quickly turned the club around and helped them to promotion back to the Football League in 2010.

Whilst at Oxford Thomas hired currently Northampton boss Chris Wilder.

Although Northampton have been blighted by off the field troubles they have had a superb start to the season on the pitch and currently sit in the automatic promotion places in League Two.

The Cobblers face Crawley Town at the Broadfield Stadium tonight.
