Leyton Orient’s Paul McCallum suffers cruel injury blow

By Hugo Varley

Leyton Orient striker Paul McCallum has suffered cruciate ligament damage after he was forced off during the club’s 1-1 draw at Northampton on Saturday. The news comes as a bitter blow to the 22-year old who only joined the Orient in June after being released by West Ham United.

McCallum had started his time with the O’s well by scoring three goals in nine appearances but is now set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines, which is likely to be at least six months.

Leyton Orient boss Ian Hendon expressed his sympathy for the Streatham born forward, telling the club’s official website “We are devastated for Paul. He had a great start to the season and was showing what he was capable of

“Paul will be a loss for us, but knowing the type of character he is I am confident he can come back fitter and stronger from this experience.”

Following relegation last season, Leyton Orient are currently sitting in 5th place in League Two and face Notts County at Brisbane Road on Saturday
