Mansfield Town sack Graham Coughlan after heavy defeat to Barrow

Mansfield Town manager Graham Coughlan

Graham Coughlan’s tenure at Mansfield Town is over after he was sacked by the club’s owner.

A 4-1 drubbing to Barrow proved to be the final straw for the former Bristol Rovers manager, who had failed to see his side record a victory nine matches into the League Two campaign.

Five draws and four defeats leave Mansfield hovering one point clear of the relegation zone, forcing The Stags to take action.

In a joint statement, chairman John Radford and co-chair Carolyn Radford said: “Unfortunately, despite an overhaul in the playing squad during the close season, and with significant backing, we have not acquired the results needed at this stage of the season.

“We have parted company amicably and thank Graham for his endeavours and wish him every success in the future.

“Fresh leadership is now required to turn around our season.

“The process for a new manager is now underway. We will be guided by our chief executive, David Sharpe, and will take the necessary time to ensure that we appoint the right manager for Mansfield Town Football Club.”

Coughlan, well respected as a coach at Southend United, left Bristol Rovers in December 2019 with the club lying 4th in League One to drop down to League Two by accepting the position at Mansfield.

The Irishman exits Field Mill with a win percentage record of 37.04%.
