Bury Making Up For Lost Time, Says Boss David Flitcroft

BURY boss David Flitcroft says the Shakers’ 4-1 destruction of Mansfield in midweek was the result of pent up frustration.

BURY boss David Flitcroft says the Shakers’ 4-1 destruction of Mansfield in midweek was the result of pent up frustration.

With bad weather decimating the League Two calendar in January and February, Bury played just five times in the first seven weeks of 2014.

The Mansfield tie was originally postponed on January 28, then again on February 11, and Flitcroft believes his players were desperate to be let off the leash.

“Before a game, you lift yourself, the adrenaline’s pumping,” he said. “You’re buzzing. Then all of a sudden, Bang… it’s called off. It’s hard, and there was a lot of frustration in the camp.

“I tried to keep a lid on it, tried to tell them ‘Don’t worry, you’ll get your chance to how what you can do’. And when it did come, I think all of that frustration came pouring out.

“It was an outstanding performance, possibly the best football we’ve played. And this project is only eight weeks old, so it’s going great so far.”
