Jacko Given Three Games To Prove Himself

SHREWBURY have handed former player Michael Jackson three games to earn the manager’s job at Greenhous Meadow.

The 40-year-old will take caretaker charge for upcoming matches against Colchester, Swindon and League One leaders Brentford following the resignation of Shrews boss Graham Turner.

Turner, 66, led the Shrews to promotion from League Two in 2011-12 but stepped down after Saturday’s 3-0 defeat to Rotherham – their fifth loss in six games – left Shrewsbury deep in relegation trouble.

Jackson, who joined the Shrews in 2008 before moving into coaching two years later, will get the chance to stake his claim, but not without a fight.

Bookies have made Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler – interviewed for the manager’s role at Conference side Macclesfield earlier this season – the early favourite.

Other names being linked include ex-Sheffield Wednesday and Burnley boss Brian Laws and former West Brom manager Gary Megson.
