Oxford United have completed the signing of former Wolverhampton Wanderers winger James Henry.

The 28-year-old wideman arrives on a free transfer after being released by Wolves in May – the club he joined permanently in 2013 following a successful loan and who he went on to make over 100 appearances for.

After beginning his career at Reading, Henry enjoyed a series of loan spells at the likes of Millwall and Bournemouth, and spent much of last season in League One with Bolton, making 30 appearances for Phil Parkinson’s side as they won promotion to the second tier.

Henry has flown out to Portugal to join the U’s on their pre-season training camp, and told the club’s official website: “It’s an exciting move for me.

“Oxford are a club making great progress and they were very impressive last season. The new manager has a fantastic reputation within football and I can’t wait to meet up with the lads and join training this week.”

Oxford boss Pep Clotet is equally as delighted with the arrival of his latest recruit, adding: “He has played a lot of football in the Championship and has real quality.

“He knows this league and been successful in it before: he has been promoted from it three times and we look forward to working with him.”

Having helped Kenny Jackett’s Wolves side romp to the League One title during the 2013/14 season, and playing a part in Bolton’s return to the Championship last term, Henry and the Oxford fans will be hoping the winger can make it a hat-trick!
