Shrewsbury make Norwich youngster Morris ninth summer signing

Shrewsbury have completed the signing of Norwich youngster Carlton Morris on a season-long loan deal.

The 21-year-old striker has made one appearance for the Canaries first-team, on the final day of the 2014-15 season, and his move to the Shrews will be his fifth loan move away from Carrow Road.

He has had spells in the EFL with Oxford and York, before venturing north of the border to play for Hamilton Academical during the 2015-16 Scottish Premiership – a campaign in which he scored eight goals.

Morris finished last season on loan at Rotherham in the Championship, and although he failed to score as the Millers were relegated, Shrewsbury boss Paul Hurst believes he’s a great addition to the squad, telling the Shropshire Star: “He fits into what we’ve been talking about.

“He’s a centre-forward that we need within the squad to compliment what we’ve already got.

“He’s a young hungry player that’s had a couple of loan spells. I think he will see this as an opportunity to really kick on and get some goals in League One for us.

“He’s mobile, strong, quick and has got a little bit of everything in truth. He’s been on the radar for 18 months probably and I’m pleased to get him in.”

Morris is the ninth signing made by Hurst this summer in what has been a very busy transfer window so far, and it was the signing of fellow Norwich starlet Ebou Adams, and the manager’s philosophy, that tempted Morris to join the Shrews.

The young forward said: “It’s a point in my career where I need to get games and goals and kick on. This is a club having a real go this season and hopefully we can all be successful this season.

“The manager attracted me for a start and I’ve heard good things about the town and the area and the football club from colleagues at Norwich.

“When I first heard of the interest I had a word with Ebou and he was singing the praises of how it’s started and he’s settled in. It wasn’t a hard decision

“I want to come here and play well. Make sure the gaffer’s happy with me and that I can play well, get goals and as high up the table as possible.”
