Bury boss David Flitcroft says it is ‘disappointing’ to hear fans chanting for him to be sacked after his side’s latest defeat, at Northampton on Saturday.

The Shakers succumbed to a 3-2 defeat at Sixfields, despite launching a late onslaught after goals from George Miller and Zeli Ismail, and now find themselves 15th in League One.

Flitcroft’s men had risen as high as 2nd at the start of the season, with a stunning September providing five wins out of five, but they have since slumped to an October that has yielded seven straight defeats, and fans aren’t happy.

Sections of Bury’s away support chanted ‘Flitcroft out’ and ‘You’re getting sacked in the morning’ throughout the loss against the Cobblers, and Flitcroft is convinced some fans never wanted him at the club in the first place.

The former Rochdale and Barnsley manager told Radio Manchester: “I do believe there has been negativity from some fans since I walked into the building.

“When we win, those fans don’t really go on the message boards or go vocal.

“There are some that have never wanted me at the football club, but while you’re losing six or seven games, you expect that chanting.

“It is disappointing to be judged over three-and-a-half weeks work when you have given everything over a three-year period.”
