‘Pressure doesn’t bother me’ – Peterborough boss McCann

Peterborough boss Grant McCann has said he is unfazed by any negativity after seeing his side go eight games without a win.

The last time Posh won was at the end of August when they conquered MK Dons away from home, but since then they have struggled and McCann’s men find themselves 13th in League One.

If has been a tough start to life at the helm for the Northern Irishman in what is his first season as a manager, after he replaced Graham Westley in May, but he is remaining upbeat.

McCann told Radio Cambridgeshire: “”Pressure doesn’t bother me, I love to prove people wrong.

“That’s what I do. I’ve done it all my career, even at 14 or 15 when people told me I wouldn’t be a footballer at my school. I thrive on it.

“I see and hear negative comments about myself, it doesn’t bother me. It’s something I’ve been used to throughout my career.”

Peterborough host David Flitcroft’s high-flying Bury at home on Saturday, and they will be hoping for only their second victory at the ABAX Stadium this campaign.

They will also be hoping to record a clean sheet, something they have done just once in their last 19 home games, but that could be tough against the Shakers who are the second highest scorers in the division.

McCann said: “I’m a big enough man to accept that I’ve got things wrong this season, there’s no two ways about it, in terms of my team selection or things I may have said in the press.

“But one thing I’ll do is keep fighting and get the best out of the boys. We know we’re not a million miles away, we know we’re putting performances in in the league, now we need to start turning them into wins.”
