Swindon sign ex-Villa marksman Delfouneso

Swindon Town have completed the signing of former Aston Villa hotshot Nathan Delfouneso until the end of the season.

The 25-year-old striker ended last season at Blackburn Rovers, after signing in 2015, and scored twice in 16 appearances for the Lancashire side.

The former England under-21 international came through the youth ranks at Villa Park, before spending time on loan at Burnley, Leicester, Coventry and Blackpool, making his spell at the Tangerines permanent in 2014.

Speaking about signing his one-year deal, Delfouneso said: “It was nice being wanted. They (Swindon) were very keen to have me from the first time I spoke to the manager and the people behind the scenes. I can’t wait to get going.

“It’s a young squad. You can tell there is a very good spirit in the squad and among the staff as well. It feels like a good vibe here. It’s nice the club have faith in me. Hopefully I can use that and we can be successful together.

Delfouneso’s arrival will come as a timely boost for Robins manager Luke Williams, who had to field a side with no recognised striker at Gillingham on Tuesday.

Injuries have limited the attacking options of Williams has at his disposal, with Luke Norris suffering an ankle injury in the 3-1 defeat to Chesterfield, and Jonathan Obika missing the last three matches with a groin complaint.
