Coventry sign Saints defender

By Nathan Jacobs

Coventry City have signed centre-back Jordan Turnbull from Southampton on a three-year deal.

The 21-year-old joins for an undisclosed fee after impressing during two loan spells at Swindon Town where he featured 97 times.

The Trowbridge-born defender failed to make an appearance for the Southampton first-team but will be hoping to impress at the Ricoh Arena.

Tony Mowbray, evidently delighted about the signing, spoke to the club’s official website: “He will strengthen our options at the back.

“I am looking forward to working with him over the course of the season and beyond.”

“Jordan has played twice against us and impressed me both times with his accomplished performance; both in possession of the ball and defensively.”

Turnbull becomes the Sky Blues sixth signing this summer following the high profile arrivals of midfielder Chris McCann and forward Marvin Sordell.

Coventry have not started the season as planned, scoring no goals in their two opening league matches, managing only one point.

They have progressed to the second round of the EFL cup though, defeating League Two Portsmouth 3-2.
