Crystal Palace recall Sullay Kaikai from successful loan spell at Shrewsbury

Crystal Palace have moved to recall midfielder Sullay Kaiai from his loan spell at Shrewsbury after the League One club successfully avoided relegation at the weekend.

The 20-year-old has been a real hit at New Meadow, netting 12 goals this season over two different loan spells to finish up as Shrewsbury’s top goalscorer.

Now that Alan Pardew’s side are also safe from the drop it is expected that Kaikai may play some part in Palace’s final two games against Stoke and Southampton as well as perhaps featuring in the FA Cup Final against Manchester United.

Shrews manager Nicky Mellon expressed his admiration for the midfielder, telling the club’s official website, “We have to say a big thank you to Crystal Palace because he has played a big part in our League 1 survival.

“I’m pleased that he will now return to Palace and may get the opportunity to be involved in their last few Premier League games.”

“Sullay has chipped in with 12 goals in his 29 appearances for Town and Micky thinks these goals have been vital in Town’s survival.

“His goals have been invaluable but he’s also a great kid and was great to have in and around the place.

“We will now look forward to seeing his progress in the future because he is a lad of great promise.”

Shrewsbury confirmed their League One status for next season despite losing 4-3 to Peterborough in a hugely entertaining encounter at New Meadow over the weekend.

Mellon’s side will be aiming to finish the season on a high with a trip to Swindon on Sunday.
