Swindon suspend players over alleged use of laughing gas

Swindon Town have suspended three of its players and initiated an investigation into alleged abuse of nitrous oxide, also known as laughing gas.

Images on social media platform Periscope appeared to show Drissa Traore, Brandon Ormonde-Ottewill and Jeremy Balmy inhaling a gas through a balloon, which has caused the Robins to make the players unavailable for team selection while it clarifies the pictures.

“The club have already started an internal investigation into the trio’s recent conduct,” a club statement said.

“They will not be considered for selection during this process.”

Nitrous oxide is not classed as a criminal drug in the United Kingdom, however after a number of deaths relating to abuse of the analgesic legislation has been drafted to outlaw it.

Luke Williams’ side lay 15th in League One after a winless run of six league games, which includes a 2-0 defeat to relegation-threatened Oldham Athletic on Tuesday.
