Scunthorpe hand Daws job for rest of the season

Scunthorpe United have confirmed that Nick Daws will continue to manage the side until the end of the season.

The 45-year-old has been in charge of the Iron since Mark Robins was sacked last month and has overseen four wins and one defeat.

The club have also confirmed that Andy Dawson also continue to assist Dawes for the rest of the campaign.

In a statement on the club’s official website, Scunthorpe Chairman Peter Swann said: “We’ve seen what they’ve done over the period they’ve been in charge and we have been impressed. They’ve worked very hard and the players are responding to them and we thought it was really important we kept that in tact and it gives us a chance to still reach the play-offs.

“We’ve seen a natural course of events, with Nick leading the way with plenty of support from Andy and I think as a duo they work very well together. As a football club, we need somebody to lead the team forward as a manager and between them they are very happy in this situation.

“Andy has been at the club since I’ve been here and he’s improved every year. They’re both going to give us everything they’ve got.

“I’ve told them to go out there, play with freedom and try to win as many matches as possible. That’s the only way that we’ll get into the play-offs and they both certainly know how to win football matches.

“They’re now fully focused on preparing the team for the home match against Oldham Athletic and I’m really looking forward to the weekend. The football we’ve played in recent weeks has been excellent and I can only see that improving.”

This is Daws’s first job in management following on from the successful career he had as a player – making 435 appearances for Bury over a nine-year spell.

Scunthorpe are currently sitting in 13th place in League One. They face Oldham at Glanford Park on Saturday.
