Ikpeazu rejoins Alex for third time on loan

20 year-old returns to a familiar ground three days after Doncaster cancelled loan

Uche Ikpeazu has agreed to move to Crewe Alexandra on loan for the remainder of the season – the third time the striker has made the switch from parent club Watford to Gresty Road since the end of the 2013/2014 campaign.

The 20 year-old returns having made the move in November after agreeing a two-month loan – scoring twice in 8 appearances – before being recalled by the Hornets and sent to League 1 rivals Doncaster Rovers.

Scoring form was less than satisfactory for the powerful striker with no return in seven games for the South Yorkshire side, who took the option to cancel the loan on Tuesday.

Quick work by Crewe means Ikpeazu is likely to be available for their game against Preston North End tomorrow, and boss Steve Davis says he’s keen on the youngster – obviously.

“We’ve been looking for his type of player ever since he left – there are not many about. The opportunity came to bring him back and I thought that was the right thing to do – he’s what we need and it’s the best option.”

Davis continued in expressing his surprise at Watford cancelling January’s loan in favour of Doncaster, “I was surprised he went back. I don’t think we’ll ever get to the bottom of what happened,” he added.

“The most important thing is to look forward now, he knows what Crewe’s all about and he’s coming into a good learning environment.”
