Burton’s Jamie Ward has hailed his loan move to the club as a ‘great opportunity’.

The 30-year-old winger, who played under current Burton boss Nigel Clough when he was in charge at Derby County, joined the Brewers on deadline day after seeing his chances of first-team action at Nottingham Forest decrease dramatically.

He appeared just once in five Championship games for Forest this season, failing to impress boss Philippe Montanier in the club’s 3-0 defeat at Brighton, so left in the search of first-team football.

Ward said:  “The most important thing at my age is to play.

“It obviously wasn’t going to happen for me there and I am not a player to sit around and just collect the money.”

Ward’s only other appearance for Forest this term was in the EFL Cup victory at Doncaster, where he scored a last-gasp winner, but after his 60 minute cameo at Brighton, he never appeared again.

And as well as the desire to just play football, Ward is excited to link up with Clough again, saying it was a ‘great opportunity.’

Ward said: “Nigel knows what I am like and I know what he is like.

“We have had a good relationship in the past and hopefully it carries on.”

Fresh from international duty in the Czech Republic on Sunday, the Northern Ireland international is now fit and available to make his debut in Burton’s match at Wolves on Saturday.
