Appleton signs new rolling contract with Oxford

Oxford United manager Michael Appleton has renewed his stay at the Kassam by signing a new rolling contract.

The fans’ wait is finally over with confirmation of the deal signalling an end to four months of talks between Appleton and the U’s board.

Not that the former Portsmouth boss hasn’t been busy steering Oxford to the verge of promotion to League One and a trip to Wembley for the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy final.

A rolling contract gives Appleton the opportunity to leave the club even if the club refuse his resignation, however Appleton expressed his delight at extending his stay with an improved deal.

“It was an easy decision to sign. All I’ve ever wanted is to help take the club forward,” said Appleton.

“I’m pleased to get everything sorted and be able to focus solely on the remaining five games of the season, starting against Luton on Saturday,” he added.

Oxford chairman Darryl Eales said Appleton remains part of his long-term plan for the club.

“I’m delighted Michael has agreed to be part of what we are trying to build here.

“He is very honest, very hard-working and has the greatest respect of everyone not just at the club but also within football,” concluded Eales.

United lie 2nd in the League Two table, four points clear in the automatic promotion zone and face Luton at the Kassam on Saturday.
