Carlisle move home game to Deepdale

Carlisle United’s home league match with Notts County will be played at Preston’s Deepdale Stadium.

The fixture on 19 December will be moved to North Lancashire after Storm Desmond wrecked severe flooding on Cumbria, with Brunton Park under 4ft of water.

Carlisle players have been out in the community helping those affected since they returned from their away tie with Welling in the FA Cup.

No details as to ticket sales have been released as yet, but the club will be releasing details once they have met with Preston’s representatives.

With the squad helping their community, the football community has come to aid the Cumbrians in their time of need with secretary Sarah McKnight saying there were no shortage of offers to help.

“The number of offers of help from clubs at every level of the football pyramid has been humbling and overwhelming,” said McKnight.

“Preston North End were in contact with us as early as Sunday night and Notts County have been extremely understanding every step of the way.

“We would also like to thank the Football League for their advice and assistance, and we will now look to finalise the details as quickly as possible,” McKnight added.

Preston North End’s chief executive John Kay expressed his willingness to assist: “As a club we are delighted to be able to assist.

“We are all members of the same football family and in what has been a difficult time for the people of Lancashire, Cumbria and the community of Carlisle in particular, the owner and those involved day-to-day at Deepdale felt we should do everything we could to get the game played.”
