Newport add promising Brentford midfielder Cole to squad

Newport County have completed the signing of Brentford youngster Reece Cole on a loan deal until January.

The promising midfielder, 19, is a product of the academy at Griffin Park and made his debut for the Bees towards the end of last season against Nottingham Forest.

His impressive showings at academy level, coupled with the ease in which he adapted to life in the Championship during his debut, earned Cole a new three-year deal with the London club in April.

Speaking to Newport’s official club website, the teenager is excited to get going and said: “The gaffer [Michael Flynn] really sold Newport to me. He said he was going to be playing youth and there’s obviously a few experienced pros.

He added that he hopes his loan spell with the Exiles will allow him to get “more league football under my belt.”

Newport have put their faith in youth this summer, after completing a deal to sign young Brighton & Hove Albion centre-back Ben White earlier this month.

Flynn clearly doesn’t have a problem with playing youth in such a competitive division that is League Two, and after the arrival of Cole was announced, the boss said: “I’m really pleased to get Reece in.

“He comes in and offers good competition in midfield and I’m looking forward to see what he can do and looking forward to him fighting for a place in the starting line-up.”

Cole began training with his new teammates today, and will be available for Saturday’s clash against Crewe as the Exiles look to build on an impressive EFL Cup victory over Southend on Tuesday.
