Crewe Alexandra manager David Artell believes Brad Walker’s move to the club will act as a great learning curve for the promising 21-year-old.

The midfielder came through the ranks at Hartlepool, his boyhood club, and made 22 appearances for Pools last season, impressing in the heart of midfield despite the fact the club dropped into the National League.

For Crewe, he has continued to show some promising signs, having already scored two goals in pre-season and starring against Bury on Saturday, and Artell believes the move is an excellent chance for the youngster to further his development.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Artell said: “Brad is on a learning curve. He has joined a new club and it is a big change for him. He has to live on his own and cope with that.

“He has had to move away from home and cope on his own, with his cleaning and cooking. It is all great life experience for him.”

“It has been a bit of a whirlwind and it’s been a big month for him. He is a really terrific kid and he had his best game for us on Saturday. He deserved the plaudits coming his way because he did everything we asked of him.”
