Bolton tell goalkeeper Amos to find new club

Championship newcomers Bolton have told goalkeeper Ben Amos he is free to find another club after leaving him behind on their pre-season tour of Scotland.

The 27-year-old shot-stopper, who came through the ranks at Manchester United, still has two years left on his Wanderers contract but spent much of last season on loan at Cardiff City, and is no longer in Phil Parkinson’s plans.

The former Bradford boss has told Mark Howard and Ben Alnwick that they will compete for the number one jersey, while the highly-rated Jake Turner will act as cover – meaning Amos, one of the squad’s highest earners, is the odd one out.

“We can’t carry four keepers so we’ve said to Ben, can we get him out on loan somewhere?” Parkinson told The Bolton News.

“The other two lads did well for us last year and it’s difficult not just in matches but even in training to make sure you can cover four goalkeepers.

“I will be taking the two senior lads – Mark Howard and Ben Alnwick – to Scotland with us and the other two will be missing out.”

After making six senior appearances at Old Trafford, Amos joined Bolton permanently in August 2015, agreeing a four-year deal after a successful loan spell, and went on to make 40 appearances for the Trotters.
