Stanley swoop to secure Eagles until January

Accrington Stanley have agreed a deal to sign experienced winger Chris Eagles until January.

The 30-year-old, who started his career at Watford before joining Manchester United as a highly-rated teenager, joined during pre-season, and appeared in the early stages of the season before suffering a calf injury.

Before Accrington, Eagles’ most recent club was League One Bury, but he found his first-team chances with the Shakers limited and left at the end of last season.

He has however enjoyed much more successful spells at a higher level, making a handful of appearances for United while also playing in the Premier League with Burnley, where he scored 25 times in over 100 appearances, and Bolton.

He now joins John Coleman’s promotion hopefuls Stanley on a permanent short-term deal, and assistant manager Jimmy Bell said: “Chris brings with him a wealth of experience having played at the top level.

“He has settled in really well, he is an energetic player and, as yet, we haven’t had a fully match-fit Chris Eagles but we are getting there.

“He has strengthened the squad and when you look at our bench and have players with the calibre of Chris Eagles on it, like on Saturday, it can only be beneficial for the team.”
