Barnet dealt Gash blow

Barnet have been dealt a major blow with striker Michael Gash suffering a serious knee injury.

Despite being fortunate not to have ruptured his cruciate ligament, the 29-year-old has damaged his knee to an extent that will see him miss the rest of the season.

Gash helped the Bees consolidate their position back in League Two last season after promotion from the National League, netting 10 goals for the season, including a spell which saw him score seven in 12 matches.

The former Cambridge United forward vowed to return stronger than ever as he faces nine months on the sidelines.

“With the support and help of the gaffer, teammates, staff and chairman and everyone else at the club that I have already received, I can only start this process with a positive and determined attitude to comeback stronger than ever,” Gash said on Twitter.

Barnet boss Martin Allen said: “He has been an outstanding player for me here at Barnet and I’m sure that all the supporters will feel the same. He is an iconic figure here at The Hive and he doesn’t always get the plaudits that he deserves.

“Not only is he a good footballer, he is a really nice person and is great to have in the dressing room.”

The north London club have enjoyed an unbeaten start to the new campaign that sees them sit in the play-off places of League Two following draws against Blackpool and Cambridge, and clinching three points against last season’s surprise package Accrington Stanley.
