Benfica winger Helder Costa has joined Wolves on a season-long loan deal subject to international clearance.

Costa spent the majority of last season on loan at Ligue 1 side Monaco, making 25 appearances and scoring three goals. He has also spent time on loan at La Liga club Deportivo La Coruna.

He is the first signing Kenny Jackett has made since the takeover of Wolves by the Fosun Group last week and the Portuguese U21 international didn’t have any worries about joining a team in the second-tier of English football.

“Even though Wolves are in the Championship I know the league is top quality and how competitive football is in this country,” explained Costa.

“It was good for me at Monaco where I played at a high level and played a lot of games and we had some success but I am very happy to be at Wolves.

“I think fans like to see wingers who are quick and attacking and I want to do that and help the team.

“I knew a bit about Wolves already and have looked up more information! They had some time in the Premier League not long ago and I want to help the club get back there again.”

A deal for Atletico Madrid defender Silvio is also in place but the defender still needs to finalise his exit from Madrid.

The club also held talks with Benfica midfielder Pele’s representatives but he is unlikely to join the club as he has other options he wishes to pursue.
