Oldham bring in two new faces

Peter Clarke and Ollie Banks have both joined Oldham on free transfers.

Experienced defender Clarke was released by Bury despite picking up their player of the season award last year, whilst Banks was let go after three years and 99 games at Chesterfield.

23 year old Banks helped Chesterfield to promotion from League Two in the 2013-2014 season and said it was manager Steve Robinson’s style of play that attracted him to the club.

“Everyone speaks very highly of the gaffer and it was an easy decision to make to come here. ” explained Banks.

“They all seem like good lads and they’ve introduced themselves to me and made me feel welcome.”

Clarke has racked up over 600 appearances during his playing career, including spells with both Huddersfield and Blackpool in the Championship.

The 34-year-old will be one of the oldest members of the Oldham squad and is confident he can impress the fans: “I know what I can do, what I can’t do and hopefully the fans are pleased with what I can do and judge me when they’ve seen me play.”

“I’ve seen one or two things along the way in my career,” he went to add. “I’ve got a bit of experience to fall back on and hopefully that can help one or two of the younger players in the squad as well.”

Both players got vital minutes under their belt during Oldham’s 3-1 defeat to Preston on Tuesday evening with Banks joining on a two year deal and Clarke for one year.
