League Two Player of the Year Award nominations announced

The League Two Player of the Year nominations have been announced this afternoon with Bristol Rovers’ Matty Taylor, Northampton Town’s Ricky Holmes and Oxford United’s Kemar Roofe in contention to win Sunday’s award.

Matty Taylor (Bristol Rovers)

Both Taylor and Bristol Rovers have taken League Two by storm this season following promotion last year. The 26-year-old striker has scored 26 league goals as Rovers have moved to within touching distance of the automatic promotion places.

Taylor has accelerated his goal scoring form in recent weeks netting eleven goals in his last nine league games.

Ricky Holmes (Northampton Town)

Northampton became the first football league side to gain promotion over the weekend and this achievement was greatly aided by the superb performances of Holmes throughout the season.

In what has been a dramatic season for the Cobblers Holmes has provided a crucial calming influence in midfield pitching in with 10 league goals and eight assists

Kemar Roofe (Oxford United)

After leading somewhat of a journeyman career prior to his permanent summer switch to Oxford, Roofe has been one of League Two’s standout performers, netting 23 goals and helping The U’s to establish themselves in the automatic promotion places.

The 23-year-old has also been nominated for the Mitre Goal of the Year award for his stunning strike against Brentford back in August.
