O’s defender returns to former club on loan

Leyton Orient defender Connor Essam has returned to former club Dover Athletic after falling out of favour in Kevin Nolan’s selection plans.

The centre-back hasn’t played 90 minutes for the O’s in eight matches and was knocked further down the pecking order with the arrival of Peter Ramage in E10 last week.

Essam captained Dover last season and was snapped up by the then Orient manager Ian Hendon last summer, but a run of injuries and change in manager have stunted the 23-year-old’s progress at Brisbane Road.

The former Gillingham and Crawley Town defender has three months left on his current deal, one of nine Orient players who are set to leave the club in the summer unless Nolan decides to enter contract renewals.

The O’s could be stalling on doing so with the squad fighting to make the League Two play-offs. Nolan and his team head to Accrington Stanley on Good Friday seeking to become only the fourth team to come away from the Wham Stadium with three points.
