Match Preview: Crewe Alexandra v Morecambe (Saturday, 3pm)

Crewe Alexandra face Morecambe on Saturday seeking to protect their long unbeaten run in League Two.

The Railwaymen are unbeaten in five, with three wins and two draws, ahead of the 3pm kick-off.

They face a Morecambe team who have won two and drawn two over the same number of games.

With 62 goals in 34 games so far this season, Crewe are scoring more than average in the league with 1.8 goals per game. And they are conceding fewer than average, letting in 46 goals at a rate of 1.4 per game.

Morecambe, meanwhile, are average scorers, with 1.5 goals per game. They have conceded 1.6 goals per game.

The Railwaymen are third in the table after 34 games, of which they have won 17 and drawn 10, earning 61 points.

The Shrimps are eight places behind the home side in 11th, with 13 wins and nine draws putting them on 48 points.

In the last 10 years, Crewe and Morecambe have played each other on 10 occasions. Crewe won six of them, Morecambe one, and they drew three times.

On average, the Railwaymen scored 2.1 goals and the Shrimps 0.8 in those matches.

Their last meeting was on December 29 2021, when Crewe won 2-1 away.

Crewe’s last match was on February 24, a 3-1 win against Notts County, with Elliot Nevitt, Josh Austerfield and Mickey Demetriou getting the goals for the Railwaymen.

Morecambe drew 1-1 with Grimsby Town last time out, also on February 24, with Jordan Michael Slew on the scoresheet.
