LP_0903_MAIN_LPE1_001

Fleetwood Town face Wigan Athletic at the Highbury Stadium on Saturday looking to secure a first win in six League One games.

The Cod Army have lost two and drawn three matches since they last earned three points – against Bristol Rovers on February 6.

They face a Wigan side who have won two and drawn one over that time.

Fleetwood are 23rd in the table after 35 games, of which they have won six and drawn 10, earning 28 points.

Wigan are 13 places ahead of Town in 10th, with 15 wins and seven draws putting them on 52 points.

In the last 10 years, Fleetwood and Wigan have played each other on 12 occasions. Fleetwood won two of them, Wigan seven, and they drew three times.

On average, the Cod Army scored 1.0 goal and the Latics 2.1 in those matches.

Their last meeting was on November 28, when Wigan won 3-0 at home.

With 36 goals in 35 games so far this season, the Cod Army are scoring at below the league average rate with 1.0 goals per game. And they are conceding more than average, letting in 58 goals at a rate of 1.7 per game.

Athletic, meanwhile, are above average scorers, with 1.4 goals per game, compared to a league average of 1.3. They have conceded 1.2 goals per game.

Fleetwood’s last match was on Tuesday, a 2-2 draw against Port Vale, with Jayden Stockley getting the goals for the Cod Army.

Wigan beat Bolton Wanderers 1-0 last time out, also on Tuesday, with Stephen Humphrys on the scoresheet.

Saturday’s match will be refereed by Jeremy Simpson, who has taken charge of six League One games so far this season, issuing two red cards and booking 37 players. He has awarded one penalty.

The last Wigan game Simpson refereed was the 4-2 loss away at Oxford United on February 13. He is yet to oversee a match featuring Fleetwood this season.
