Match Preview: Leyton Orient v Bristol Rovers (Saturday, 3pm)

Leyton Orient host Bristol Rovers on Saturday at Brisbane Road in League One.

In their last league match, on Tuesday, Orient beat Blackpool 1-0 at home, with their goal scored by Oliver O’Neill.

Rovers also won, 2-1 at home against Carlisle United on February 24, with Chris Martin and Scott Sinclair on the scoresheet.

In the last 10 years, Orient and Rovers have played each other on seven occasions. Orient won two of them, Rovers three, and they drew twice.

On average, Orient scored 1.3 goals and the Gas 1.3 in those matches.

Their last meeting was on November 28, when they played out a 1-1 draw.

With 47 goals in 34 games so far this season, Rovers are scoring more than average in the league with 1.4 goals per game. But they are conceding more than average too, letting in 49 goals at a rate of 1.4 per game.

Orient, meanwhile, are below average scorers, with 1.2 goals per game, compared to a league average of 1.3. They have also conceded 1.2 goals per game.

In Martin, the Gas have one of the league’s sharpest shooters so far this season. He has notched 14 goals in 24 appearances, to sit sixth in the scoring charts.

His goal rate of one every 122 minutes is much quicker than that of Ruel Sotiriou, the hosts’ top scorer with a goal every 249 minutes, and a total of 10 goals in 34 games.

Orient are eighth in the table after 35 games, of which they have won 15 and drawn nine, earning 54 points.

The away team are five places behind Orient in 13th, with 13 wins and seven draws putting them on 46 points.

The home side are in reasonable form in League One, with four wins and two losses from their last six games.

With three wins and three losses over that period, Rovers’ form is worse – they have taken nine points from 18, compared to Orient’s 12.

Saturday’s match will be refereed by Darren Drysdale, who has taken charge of 13 League One games so far this season, issuing two red cards and booking 49 players. He has awarded three penalties.

He is yet to oversee a match featuring either Orient or Rovers this season.
