Oxford draft in George Waring on emergency loan

Oxford have signed striker George Waring on a one month emergency loan from Stoke City.

The 21-year-old spent time on loan with Barnsley last season, where he scored six goals in 17 appearances. He is expected to go straight into the squad for tonight’s game at Exeter.

Oxford are enduring a torrid time with injuries at the moment and manager Michael Appleton confirmed that he only had 13 first team players who were fit enough to train yesterday.

After completing the deal to bring Waring to the Kassam Stadium this morning, Appleton told Oxford’s official club website, “George has been on a lot of people’s radar for a while.

“He is a good player and has a physical presence up front but he also scores goals, as he showed at Barnsley.

“We have one or two knocks at the moment and George provides us with a different sort of threat and a bit more competition for places over the next month or so.”

Waring will wear the number 7 shirt during his stay at the club.

Oxford are currently sitting in 3rd place in League Two, fifteen points behind league leaders Northampton
